We have been exploring everyday materials through looking, touching, classifying and discussing. The children wrote down all the things they already know about materials and we learnt a lot from each other. We will be looking at the different properties of materials and how these properties define what we use them for.

Go on a materials hunt around your house and see what you can find! Good questions to ask might be:

– Why are pots and pans not made out of wood?

– Why are beds soft?

– Why do plugs have a plastic cover on them?

– Why are windows made of glass and not metal for example?

Have fun!
