The children went on a wildflowers walk with Miles King (People Need Nature) and learned about buttercups. They picked the seeds and then sowed them on the Damers Meadow on the Great Field. Miles showed the children the buttercups that had appeared from last years Year 1 classes.
Miles is putting together a list of wildflowers that children can pick their seeds and then sow on the Meadow with an adult in their own time.
We started our Nature Journal last week drawing buttercups and writing some facts and observations of what was seen. Also adding I wonder questions too. A nature journal is using words, pictures, and numbers to collect and record observations, questions, connections, and explanations on the pages of a notebook. This is something you could carry on with at home. Some information below and here https://johnmuirlaws.com/nature-journaling-starting-growing/
Skipper 1 have been selected to take part in a Nature Premium field trial led by Harmony Project funded by the Aurora Trust. The aim of the field trial is to gather evidence to show that increasing children’s connection with nature benefits learning and improves physical and mental wellbeing. The evidence will be used at a national level to support the proposal for a Government roll-out of a Nature Premium for all schools.
